Shays a statesman, not a politician

To the Editor:

Fed up with politics as usual in Washington, D.C.? Tired of partisan bickering and politicians who lack the political courage to make tough decisions? Tired of your political leaders who have their best interests at heart and not yours?

What we need in Washington is a leader with experience in making tough choices. We need a statesman with experience in foreign affairs.

We need a leader who:

• Helped write the Contract with America.

• Co-chaired government watchdog committee uncovering waste, fraud and abuse.

• Balanced the budget four years in a row.

• Cosponsored and voted for the Balanced Budget Amendment.

• Took on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac long before the economic meltdown.

• Advocated for increased domestic energy production, including offshore drilling.

• Voted to cut taxes and spending which translates into a growing economy and job creation.

Yes, we need change in Washington. Sending an experienced statesman to the Senate who can hit the ground running will help make that change happen. Chris Shays was always part of the solution when he served in Congress, not part of the problem.

Connecticut will have the historic opportunity to elect a statesman, not a politician in November. Chris is not only good for Connecticut, but for our country. But first he needs your vote in the Republican Primary on Aug. 14. Of all the candidates currently running in their respective party primaries, Chris is the only one with a proven record of bipartisan solutions-not party politics as usual.
