LETTER: Thank you Mike Tetreau and Robert Mayer

To the Editor:

Approximately 4 years ago I learned that the Town of Westport was participating in the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) National Flood Insurance Program Community Rating System (CRS) which enabled Westport residents to receive a discount on their flood insurance. I thought this was a valuable program for Fairfield so I brought it to First Selectman Mike Tetreau’s attention, and he took it from there.

Applying for the CRS was a considerable effort and there were many challenges at every step. Mike Tetreau never lost sight of the goal and persisted through many meetings and analyses along with Robert Mayer, Fairfield’s Director of Finance, an invaluable partner in this 4 year application process.

By getting Fairfield approved for the CRS, Fairfield residents who have federal flood insurance will cumulatively save almost 1/2 million dollars annually. As the town implements further flood mitigation measures, residents could be eligible to receive even greater discounts on flood insurance.

Thank you Mike Tetreau and Robert Mayer.
