Fairfield DTC to protest at tonight’s BOS meeting

The Fairfield Democratic Town Committee will hold a protest tonight at 4:30 p.m., at Town Hall, and then on to the Fairfield Museum for the Board of Selectmen meeting. Signs are welcome.

Below is a letter from DTC Chairman Steve Sheinberg regarding the recent petition drive and special election.

Dear DTC members and friends:

We are writing to update you on recent actions related to the petition drive and special election for a Board of Selectman (BOS) seat. Although the Town Clerk set June 6, 2017 as the special election date, Republican Selectmen Chris Tymniak and Ed Bateson voted at a recent BOS meeting to reject holding a special election.

Although Tymniak and Bateson’s actions represent a clear example of voter suppression, it is unclear if the Town Clerk will set the special election date regardless of the BOS vote. If she does set the date, the Republicans may sue.  If she does not set a date, plaintiffs who signed the special election petition are likely to sue.

Regardless of her decision, we can show our displeasure with Tymniak and Bateson’s actions by:

  • Protesting at this Wednesday’s Board of Selectman meeting Feb. 1, at 4:30 p.m., at the Fairfield Museum and History, 370 Beach Road; signs are welcome!
  • Writing them at [email protected] Tell them you want to choose who represents you.
  • Write a letter to the editor and send it to the following outlets: Fairfield Sun ([email protected]; CT Post ([email protected]); Fairfield Patch ([email protected]); Daily voice ([email protected]); Minuteman ([email protected]).
  • Post a note on your personal Facebook page

We will continue to update you as we learn more. In the meantime, please do all that you can to fight this instance of voter suppression. The will of the people will not be silenced; together we can make a difference.

Steve Sheinberg

Chairman, DTC
