LETTER: Our vote is our voice!

To the Editor:

As a resident in the town of Fairfield, it’s my right and civic responsibility to vote in local elections. Engaging in politics at the local level enables me to have a say as to who will best represent me and enact policies I believe to be in the best interest of this town and community. When that right is being threatened, it’s incumbent upon me as a good citizen to stand up, raise my voice and encourage others to do the same.

In writing this letter, I hope to bring attention to an important matter:  namely, there is to be a special election to vote for a Board of Selectmen member who would finish the remainder of the 3-year term of a Republican seat left vacant when a former member resigned for personal reasons.  Of the three members of the BOS, two are Republicans and they are trying to squash this special election.  In doing so, they threaten to undermine democracy.

These two Republican members of the BOS are not fairly representing the will of the people and they are putting personal desire above the needs and rights of their constituents.  In speaking with friends and neighbors, Fairfield residents are fed up with politicians who place politics above people. This special election must proceed so we the people, of the great town of Fairfield, can have a voice.
