Fairfield Democrats welcome former Republicans

Kevin Kiley, Carolyn Trabuco and John Convertito change party affiliation

DemocraticDonkeyAt the Democratic Town Committee (DTC) monthly meeting held on Jan. 9, former Republican Kevin Kiley was welcomed into the Democratic party. Kiley recently registered as a Democrat after serving as a Republican on the RTM from 1993-1997, the Board of Finance from 1997-2012 and the Board of Selectman from 2012-2015.

Kiley has a long history of public service as a Republican, and was warmly received into the Democratic party. DTC Chair Steven Sheinberg stated: “We are pleased to welcome Kevin into the Democratic party. Kevin has a strong record of service to our town and is committed to our shared values.  We will all benefit from his unique perspective and talents.”

Kiley spoke to members of the DTC, stating, “I am proud to announce that I have chosen to affiliate as a Fairfield Democrat. Simply put, my core values and my views on local government are aligned with yours. I am grateful to the Fairfield Democrats for welcoming me to the party and I am eager to continue serving the town of Fairfield.

Kevin Kiley is not the first former Republican to change party affiliation over the past year. Over the summer Carolyn Trabuco was nominated and became a member of the DTC. In addition, former Republican Board of Education member John Convertito also switched his political party from Republican to Democrat.
