A record breaking number, 170 people, attended the recent  Salute to Veterans Luncheon at Bigelow Center for Senior Activities. The affair began with a welcome by Director of Human Services, Terry Giegengack, followed by the entrance of members of the Port 5 Naval Veterans Color Guard. Tom Dubrosky, Chief of Staff  introduced the keynote speaker, Colonel Tom Armas, USMCR, a decorated hero and Medal of Valor recipient for heroism on 9/11.

Colonel Armas spoke about the importance of thanking our veterans. He talked about the diversity in the services, but emphasized they are united as one, when it comes to love of our country. Col. Armas mentioned that very often we don’t know our veterans.  He urged the audience to find them and be sure to thank them and help them assimilate back into society. The audience was asked to seek out and especially thank the Vietnam Veterans, who deserve our thanks and admiration now more than ever.

Completing the agenda was NYC Jazz Musician, Brian Nalepka, provided to the Center by a grant from the Music Performance Trust Fund in New York City.
