LETTER: The Republic is Saved (for Now)

Letter-to-the-EditorNEWTo the Editor:

The greatest guarantor of liberty is the diffusion of power. Last Tuesday represented the repudiation of eight years of rampant progressivism — our national nightmare is over.

The entire nation should be relieved, but because of years of incessant propagandizing by the powerful organs of government and the press, too many of our fellow citizens are unduly concerned with the election’s result. The real concern should be that half the electorate was willing to let an Administration nullify a criminal investigation to install the subject of that investigation into the presidency.

And into the breach at the last possible moment stepped one Donald Trump, a most flawed and improbable messenger. He was not my preferred candidate, but I hope over time all people come to realize the service he performed for all Americans. He has vowed to abide by the Constitution and appoint judges at all levels who will do the same.

The federal government was created by the states and the Constitution proscribes very limited powers to it. We would all be better off debating how our society is to be ordered in the legislature in Hartford and our town councils rather than in Washington or courtrooms anywhere. My hope is that the power that has been gradually usurped by Washington now begins to be devolved back to the states and to the people, as the Constitution stipulates.

Tuesday’s lesson is that Americans do not want to be ruled! We do not want to be governed against our will and without our consent. And thank God we finally stood up and effectively let it be known to our ruling political class.
