Rising Tides Museum After Dark: The Beautiful Pond

Author and artist Judy Katz will talk about the Beautiful POND on Wednesday, Nov. 16, from 6-8 p.m., at the Fairfield Museum, 370 Beach Road. This Museum After Dark event will be held in conjunction with the Museum’s Rising Tides exhibition.

Katz will be joined by Leigh Shemitz, Ph.D. president of SoundWaters and Robin Tauck, a travel company co-owner, business leader, philanthropist and Old Mill Pond resident. The three will discuss the importance of preserving natural resources and particularly the local treasure, Old Mill Pond.

A wine and cheese reception will be held from  6-6:45. The speakers will talk about why it is essential to preserve and protect Earth’s special places and how to do it. They will also share stories and the history of a beloved Westport pond, and how it’s helping to save Long Island Sound.

Copies of the beautiful POND will be available for signing. The colorful 88-page storybook is about Old Mill Pond and Compo Cove in Westport. It celebrates the pond, its history and its environmental contribution to the region. Each page features a stunning watercolor of the pond and its environs, walking readers through the transformation of the pond from a working mill to a beloved and bucolic sanctuary for coastal life.

Museum After Dark events are free for members and $5 for non-members. The Rising Tides exhibition runs through Feb. 28, 2017. It is sponsored by Fairfield University with additional support provided by Avangrid and Fairfield County Bank Insurance Services.

Fairfield Museum is located at 370 Beach Road in Fairfield. For more information visit Fairfieldhistory.org or call 203-259-1598. Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. daily.
