Fairfield loses in Regional semifinal

The Fairfield Little League softball team lost to New Hyde Park (N.Y.) by a score of 6-0 in the Eastern Regional semifinals at Breen Field in Bristol on Thursday.

New Hyde Park will meet Robbinsville (N.J.) for the title at 7 p.m. Friday.

Robbinsville defeated Cumberland (R.I.), 4-2, in the first semifinal.

New York scored three runs in the first inning and added solo tallies in the third, fifth and sixth.

Fairfield was held to four hits by Jenny Hickey, who struck out seven and walked two.

Brittany Romero, Anna Rasmussen, Shannon McCartney and Amanda Schramm had the hits for Fairfield.

Romero was the leading hitter at the Eastern Regional, going 11-for-19 for a .579 average with nine RBIs and nine runs scored.
