LETTER: Phil Dwyer has shown up for Fairfield

Letter-to-the-EditorNEWTo the Editor:

Philip Dwyer has earned my support for the Connecticut State Senate, District 28.

Dedicated, knowledgeable and fair, Phil has spent his career committed to improving the lives of children, local communities, and our schools.

As current Chair of the Fairfield Board of Education, Phil is uniquely qualified to tackle the challenges that public education continues to present at both the state and national levels.

Offering a “boots on the ground” perspective, Phil will be a valuable resource to our state senators as they reassess how the state funds education, a task a recent court decision may force them to do. Phil will fight to keep education dollars coming to Fairfield.

A few years ago, I turned to Phil for advice on how to successfully advocate for the local school budget. He surprised me by quoting Woody Allen: “80% of success is showing up.”

Many politicians show up for the big, public events; what strikes me about Phil is how active he is behind the scenes as well.

From working to build a childcare center in Bridgeport to brainstorming to serving on the Fairfield Cares Community Coalition, our paths have crossed many times over the past 15 years.

What impresses me about Phil is that he exemplifies that extra 20% of success as well. He works hard, and is able to unite those with differing opinions in order to successfully get the job done.

Phil has shown up for Fairfield. He has shown up for our families, our students, our teachers, and by putting forth fiscally responsible budgets, he has shown up for our taxpayers. On Election Day, I hope you will join me and show up for him by electing him as our next State Senator.
