LETTER: Dru Georgiadis, the obvious choice

Letter-to-the-EditorNEWTo the Editor:

For me, it’s an obvious choice: Dru Georgiadis for 132nd District state Representative. Looking at the League of Women Voters Voters Guide, I see the same old, same old “It’s all the budget all the time” from Brenda Kupchick, with the implication that all we need do is run the government like a business—and an unregulated business at that.

But the purpose of business and the purpose of government are different. That’s something Dru understands: the purpose of government is helping people, whether they are running a business or not.

Dru looks at the whole picture—not just the party line. Yes, she is experienced in the business world with meeting budget goals and making sure that expenses are well planned and executed, but she also is experienced in pulling people together to solve problems in our community for our community—whether it is senior tax relief, public works, PTA challenges, or services for families and children—no matter the party affiliation or the political philosophy. And she understands the need to balance regulations that protect the people of our state with the needs of businesses. And the need to make smart investments that will pay off well for the future.

Dru will roll up her sleeves from the get-go and then get going, recognizing that compromise is democracy’s strength not weakness. As she has done so often, she will be ready to listen to all sides of an issue, finding common ground that all can support, even if grudgingly.

Dru will be a breath of fresh air in Hartford—and a catalyst for action rather than finger-pointing while nothing gets done. She is my choice for the 132nd District. I hope she will be yours.
