Republicans for Hillary: The Patriotic Choice

Letter-to-the-EditorNEWTo the Editor:

We’re Republicans for Hillary. Once you rule out Trump as a vapid, vindictive, self-promoting, erratic, reckless pretender, there isn’t another choice.

We join a growing list of Republican leaders who’ve made the hard choice to put Country over Party by rejecting Trump. We also join Republicans who are supporting Hillary Clinton, including former President George HW Bush, Congressman Chris Shays, Governor Christie Todd Whitman and business leader Meg Whitman. Many leaders of industry, national security, military, business, and science support Clinton over Trump, deeming him a threat to both our national security and economy.

Trump runs on his business record, which is questionable. A casino analyst once described Trump as “a great promoter, mediocre manager and miserable financial custodian”. Billionaire Warren Buffett opined that Trump would have increased his wealth more if he’d just invested the millions in assets from his father.

Why is Trump still hiding his tax returns? The hiding itself is a red flag. What he’s hiding must be really bad, and Americans deserve to know. It’s possible he’s not even the billionaire he proclaims. His businesses lost almost $1B in a year and may not have paid income taxes in almost 20 years. His companies have declared multiple bankruptcies, he’s had a string of failed businesses, has been sued almost 3,500 times, has a reported pattern of stiffing contractors, has allegedly employed undocumented workers, produces his own products in foreign countries, and chooses Chinese steel for his buildings. He doesn’t appear to contribute much to charity and has used his own charity to settle lawsuits and buy paintings of himself.

If past behavior predicts future actions he’d use the Presidency to self-deal and to punish critics. His bigoted attack on the Judge hearing the fraud case against Trump University is an example of using political power to interfere with the justice system in his own case. There’s more to worry about should he reach the pinnacle of power.

Trump’s companies have reportedly received a huge amount of money from Russian interests which may explain why he defends and praises Putin. His company has licensing and business arrangements around the world. His tax returns would give us insight into these global entanglements but he’s blocking this vital information.

Billionaire Richard Branson described Trump as being ‘revenge obsessed’, and Trump wasted his Gettysburg “Grieve-dress” by threatening to sue women who’ve complained about sexual assaults. His greed and thin skin won’t recede if he wins. Trump’s abysmal record reveals bad, ingrained character traits, which is why we can’t support him.

Per Governor Whitman, Clinton would “walk into the oval office ready to govern, be a steady hand on the nuclear code and has shown she can work across the aisle as a Senator.”

People want change, but change for the better, not for the worst. That’s why as Republican, we’re voting for Hillary Clinton, and we hope you will too.
