Getting back on the grid at the beach

Many of the homes in flooded areas have had their electric meters deactivated, First Selectman Michael Tetreau said Monday.

“This allows UI to continue to work on reenergizing the entire circuit an individual home is still offline. If your electrical system has been affected by the flood, it could be a fire hazard,” he added in a Code RED message.

Prior to reenergizing the following steps may be required by homeowners:

• Contact a licensed insured electrician to inspect the home’s system (for recommendations contact the town Building Department at 203- 256-3036)

• Have the electrician contact the Building Department once repairs are complete;

• Building officials will contact UI to authorize power restoration;

• UI will then reconnect the meter.

Questions may be directed to the Building Department at 203-256-3036.
