Trumpeter Brandon Ridenour plays a free concert at Pequot Library

Pequot Library in partnership with Music for Youth present Brandon Ridenour, trumpeter at their next Free Young Persons’ Concert on Oct. 22, at 2 p.m. Come early and meet the brass instrument family in a “petting zoo” hosted by members of our youth orchestras in the Children’s Library at 1:15 before the concert. Meet the brass family; trumpet, trombone, tuba and French horn and learn how these brass instruments create and manipulate sound.

Brandon was winner of the 2014 CAG Victor Elmaleh Competition. His wide-ranging activities as a soloist and chamber musician, paired with his passion for composing and arranging, are evident in his versatile performances and unique repertoire. As a concerto soloist, Brandon appeared in 2015-16 with the South Bend Symphony and Modesto Symphony, and is also featured with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center for its annual performances of Bach’s complete Brandenburg Concertos.

Brandon has appeared as a concerto soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Indianapolis, Jacksonville, and Edmonton Symphony Orchestras. He has played with leading ensembles including the New York Philharmonic, International Contemporary Ensemble, the Knights, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.

Brandon is the winner of the 2006 International Trumpet Guild solo competition and a recipient of the Morton Gould ASCAP Young Composer Award.

A graduate of The Juilliard School and an alumnus of Carnegie Hall’s Ensemble ACJW, Brandon began playing piano at the age of 5 under the tutelage of his father, Rich Ridenour, with whom he still performs frequently in recital and with Pops Orchestras.

Brandon’s concert will be followed by a master class for advanced trumpet students. Registration is required for participation in trumpet master class. Music for Youth’s mission is to foster the love and knowledge of live music in young people. The concert in October is FREE for adults attending with children. Adults attending without children are asked to make a goodwill donation that helps to sustain future programs. No tickets or advance registration is required to attend the concert.
