Center at Fairfield celebrates 45th anniversary

Saturday, September 24th was declared “The Connecticut Audubon Society’s Center at Fairfield Day” by Fairfield First Selectman Mike Tetreau at an event celebrating the 45th anniversary of the Center’s opening on Burr Street. In an official town proclamation presented that evening, the Center was congratulated on its milestone, and recognized as a vital community resource for environmental and conservation education programs serving both the local community and area inner-city schools.

In keeping with this blast to the past, guests arrived in their coolest bellbottoms and platform shoes, ready to “party hearty” and revel in the evening’s throwback to 1971 — the year the Center opened. Anniversary celebration Co-Chairs Virginia Dean and Terri Jennings led the volunteer committee hosting the groovy retro evening which included 70’s style food (think deviled eggs and  pineapple ham skewers), a sing-a-long, and rockin’ tunes courtesy of The Merwin Mountain Band.

A highlight of the evening was the debut and launch of “AudubonBons,” an exclusive line of Belgian chocolates handcrafted by Benoit Racquet, owner of BE Chocolat. AudubonBons, in four varieties, are now available at the Center at Fairfield’s Nature Store and through the website: ctaudubon.org/center-at-fairfield. Sales of the bird-themed chocolates and proceeds from the event will benefit The Connecticut Audubon Society’s conservation and environmental education programs.
