Downtown Farmers Market open through Oct. 2

At its meeting this past week, the Fairfield Parks & Recreation Commission approved a request for a four-week extension of the Downtown Farmers Market through Oct. 2. The market is held weekly on Sundays, from 10-2, on Sherman Green.

The downtown market is a pilot initiative of the Fairfield Office of Community & Economic Development, in collaboration with local business owner, Bill Auer of Firehouse Deli, who serves as the market master. The market now features nearly two dozen local farm vendors and producers, offering a diverse array of fresh and seasonal vegetables, fruit, herbs, bread, eggs, fish, and other fare.

The Downtown Farmers Market is one of two farmers markets in Fairfield; the other being the Greenfield Hill Farmers Market, located at 65 Hillside Road, which is held on Saturdays from 10-3 through the fall.
