Gustave Whitehead talk at Fairfield Museum Aug. 13

There will be a Gustave Whitehead talk on Saturday, Aug. 13, from 10-2, at the Fairfield Museum & History Center, 370 Beach Road, Fairfield. The event is free. 

Celebrating the 115th anniversary of Gustave Whitehead’s flight in 1901 at Turney’s Farm in Fairfield, there will be a replica of Whitehead’s No. 21 “Flyer” on display, and Hobbytown will be giving aerial demonstrations of remote controlled aircraft and drones. The Fairfield Flying Aces, an RC aircraft club, also will be on hand to do demonstrations. The first 50 children will receive a balsa wood model flyer to assemble and fly.

Susan Brinchman, author of Gustave Whitehead: First in Flight, will be making a virtual presentation in the meeting hall at 1 p.m., “Flight to the Future: Gustave Whitehead, August 14th, 1901, Evidence and Legacy.” In celebration of the 115th anniversary of Gustave Whitehead’s historic, manned, sustained, powered flight in Fairfield, Brinchman will share the strong new evidence supporting his controversial pre-Kitty Hawk flights and his many contributions to modern flight.
