Pequot Library’s 56th annual Summer Book Sale starts Friday

Local food trucks and caterers will be on hand, Friday through Sunday, during what’s known as “The Best Book Sale in New England.” The sale runs from Friday, July 22 to Tuesday July 26, on the Great Lawn and inside of Pequot Library. During the book sale, Fairfield County’s The Buzz Truck, will offer coffee and tea, and locally sourced breakfast items and snacks on Friday morning, followed by Norwalk’s Susan Kane Catering offering lunches-to-go from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, Genee Habansky of Bridgeport’s Herbaceous Catering will offer snacks and food made from seasonal and local ingredients.

The book sale opens at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 22 with the ceremonial cannon fired by Charles Mallory of the Delamar Southport. Fairfield’s First Selectman, Michael Tetreau, will be the Master of Ceremonies and local and state officials have been invited. There will be more than 140,000 books and media for sale in over 60 categories. High quality books at reasonable prices, admission is free and open to the public. Proceeds from the Book Sale directly fund Pequot Library’s more than 750 annual programs and events.

Hours and pricing are as follows: Friday, July 22 — 9 a.m.-7 p.m., double the marked price; Saturday, July 23 — 9 a.m.-6 p.m., all items priced as marked; Sunday, July 24 — 9 a.m.-6 p.m., priced as marked; Monday, July 25 — 9 a.m.-6 p.m., half the marked price; and the last day Tuesday, July 26 — 9 a.m.-2 p.m., $5 per bag day.

More than 60 categories, including: Art & Architecture, Astrology & Occult, Atlas & Dictionary, Biography, Business, Children, Children Young Adult, Classics, Coffee Table, Cookbooks, CT & NE & NY, Crafts & Hobbies, Education & Text, Exotica, Family & Parenting, Fiction, First Editions, Foreign Language, Gardening & Nature, Graphic Novels, Health Issues, History & Politics, Humor, Impulse, Large Print, Law & Crime, Maritime, Military History, Music, Nutrition, Diet & Exercise, Mystery, Old and Interesting, ‘Ologies, Performing Arts, Pets & Animals, Photography, Poetry, Records, CDs, Tapes, DVDs, Videos, Religion & Philosophy, Science, Science Fiction, Self Help, Sets, Sheet Music, Signed Books, Sociology & Anthropology, Specials, Spies/Espionage, Sports (large selection of Golf books this year), Travel, Vintage Children, Transportation, Writing, Literature, Journalism.   

New this year, there will be an Eclectic Print and Art Sale (located in the Reading Room) from Friday, July 22-Sunday, July 24, with more than 1,700 items, all priced to sell. Parking: In Pequot Library’s parking lot, or the Trinity Episcopal Church* parking lot (on the corner of Pequot Avenue and Center Street), or in the Southport Congregational Church parking lot (524 Pequot Avenue and across from church) or, on the weekend, in the train station parking lot (400 Center Street).

Park for Food at Trinity Church during the busiest weekend days in exchange for a donation of food or funds will be underway. Trinity asks for cash or food donations to support food pantries in Bridgeport from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday-Sunday, July 22-24. Pequot Library’s 56th annual Summer Book Sale is located at 720 Pequot Avenue, Southport, CT under the tents on the Great Lawn, parking lot, in the Auditorium, Reading Room, and Rennell Room.
