Pink Pom-Pom Project to install Honey Bee communities

Community outreach project to help at-risk youth

Alexandra (Alex) Wallace-Currie, founder of The Pink Pom-Pom Project (PPPP), is on a new mission for 2017 to install Honey Bee communities throughout Bridgeport.

Known as The Park City, Alex is convinced that Bridgeport and its 27 Parks is the perfect place to establish honey bee beehive communities for at-risk youth by offering participants alternative life skill workshops.

Honey bees live within their own communities called bee hives. There is a vigilant hierarchy starting with The Queen Bee to the Worker Bees, Nurse Bees, Caretakers, and Drones. The Queen Bee watches her community and her community watches her.

Maintaining not only the health of the hive, but happiness is key too. Growing a Beehive is fascinating in its own right and kids learn every aspect of hive maintenance to harvesting honey to using beeswax to produce natural products for use and sale. At the end of the summer/early Fall, kids learn how to prepare Bee Hives for Winter, making sugar syrup, and closing the hives.

The Pink Pom-Pom Project has been working diligently through out Bridgeport for more than three years, working directly with children at The Cardinal Shehan Center, McGivney Community Center, The Child & Family Guidance Center and Wakeman’s Girls & Boys Club. Volunteers for The PPPP has taught classes covering arts & crafts, jewelry making, holiday card design, and sewing through out the year since early 2013.

Donations can be made directly to The Pink Pom-Pom Project, Inc. at 75 Hillside Road, Fairfield, CT 06824. The Pink Pom-Pom Project, Inc. is a registered 501©3 charity, EIN 61-1713080. We can provide a letter of recognition for tax purposes too.
