Maplewood Assisted Living plan advances

Efforts to develop a 98-unit senior/assisted living facility in the Southport section of Town received a boost when the Town Plan & Zoning Commission unanimously approved an application submitted by Westport-based Maplewood Senior Living this past Tuesday, June 21. Maplewood presently operates nine other senior living communities, of which six are located in Connecticut.

Maplewood is planning to construct a 91,926 square foot assisted living and memory care facility on this 27-acre site located on Mill Hill Terrace. Additionally, Maplewood will permanently preserve 15 acres of the property as protected open space through a conservation easement in accordance with the terms of their Inland Wetlands permit.

The $20 million project is expected to generate an estimated $250,000 in annual net new taxes and 100 permanent jobs, and provide additional housing options for the frail elderly population and those afflicted with Alzheimer’s Disease. Construction is scheduled to begin later this year.
