Children’s Summer Reading: On Your Mark, Get Set…Read!

This year’s summer reading challenge — “On Your Mark, Get Set . . . Read!” is for children entering kindergarten through grade 5. Children may read their way through the Hall of Champions and explore interesting things to do at the Library this summer. Begin as a Rookie and read your way up to All-Star by August 20 when summer reading ends.

Do you like winning prizes? Once you’ve registered for summer reading you can start using your Raffle Tracker to earn points toward prizes. Every time you visit the Library, attend a program, participate in a daily activity and, of course, read 200 minutes, you earn a stamp on your Raffle Tracker. Each week prizes will be raffled off and all raffle tickets will be placed in the Grand Prize Raffle for a chance to win a Raleigh Rowdy bike and helmet. The Grand Prize will be drawn at the Closing Ceremonies party on Aug. 19.

Do you like challenges?  Every time you visit the Library you can try challenges like Seek the Snitch, Hopscotch Highway and Chapter Chance. Plus new and exciting scavenger hunts and STEAM activities/crafts will be introduced weekly. Drop in from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to discover, learn, play and earn stamps on your Raffle Tracker.  Plus there are ongoing programs like MVP Movie Mondays at both libraries; Sunrise Yoga at Main every other Friday; Legos at Woods on Wednesdays/ Main on Thursdays; and Minecraft Meet-Up at Main on Monday evenings.

Then there are cool summer special programs like Hip Hop Kids, Roller Derby, Family BINGOs, Skateboarding and Mad Science.  And we have a Jr. Reading Program for preschoolers.  Pick up our Summer Reading Program brochure at the Library or find summer reading under the Children’s section of our website at www.fairfieldpubliclibrary.org.

All programs at the Fairfield Public Library are free.  For more information on these and other programs, visit us online at:  www.fairfieldpubliclibrary.org or call 203-256-3160.
