911 is for life-threatening calls only

Emergency officials are reminding residents that 911 is reserved for life-threatening calls only.

Calls for service, such as downed trees, can be made to the Emergency Communications Center, 203-254-4800, where dispatchers are fielding calls.

UIL Holdings, parent company of United Illuminating, advises residents to lways assume downed power lines are live and dangerous, and be mindful of natural gas odors.

If you see a downed power line, need to report an electrical power outage, or smell natural gas, please call your utility toll-free with the location and any specifics. Keep these numbers handy and programmed into your mobile phone.

United Illuminating: 800-7-CALL-UI (800-722-5584)
