American Family Care event strives to ease children’s fears

Teddy bears, dolls welcome

AFC-Ted-EAmerican Family Care (AFC) Urgent Care, an urgent care walk-in clinic at 1918 Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield, 607 Main Avenue in Norwalk and 3000 Summer Street in Stamford, will teach children about visits to the doctor during educational Ted E. Bear Urgent Care Fairs at all three locations on Saturday, May 14, from 10 to 1.

Children may take a stuffed animal or doll to the AFC clinics for examination and treatment by clinicians. Urgent care staff will escort the “patients” through several stations to receive checkups, X-rays and bandages or other treatments. Doctors and other medical professionals will explain the procedures to alleviate children’s fear of health care visits by helping them understand what to expect.

The event will also feature refreshments, giveaways and facility tours.

AFC services include X-rays, lab tests, pre-employment physicals, drug screening, sports and school physicals, vaccinations, and travel medicine.
