Afghan raffle at the Fairfield Woods Branch Library

afghan1Once upon a time, seven years ago in June, five women began attending a weekly knitting program at the Fairfield Woods Branch Library.  This small group grew steadily until its current membership is over 40!  Individual projects, community projects and friendships are knit together each week.

The Purls of Wisdom knitting group’s support of community knitting projects and the Fairfield Public Library is remarkable. Sixteen women from this group volunteered their time to knit the beautiful afghan that is now on display at the Woods Branch Library. The Friends of the Fairfield Public Library are sponsoring a raffle of the afghan. This afghan is valued at several hundred dollars.

The raffle proceeds will help support the crafts programs at the Library. Tickets are being sold at the Fairfield Woods Branch Library, 1147 Fairfield Woods Road for $5.  The drawing will be in early June.

The craft programs that the Library offers are free of charge and very popular.  Not only does crafting replace stress and anxiety with the satisfaction of creation, it has been documented that craft activities promote the development of neural pathways in the brain that help to maintain cognitive health.  Who knew that this type of fun was good for you?
