Connecticut gas prices up; national prices down

For the ninth consecutive week, Connecticut average gas prices are up — this week a penny — but they remain well below last year’s average, says AAA Northeast.

A gallon of regular gas in The Nutmeg State today averages $2.35, up .$01 cent compared to last week but compared to last year, average prices are still $.47 cents lower, says AAA Northeast.

In recent weeks, East Coast regional markets between Washington, DC through Maine have seen pump prices move up and down a penny or two so, according to experts, it’s quite possible prices have started to stabilize as refineries increase production to meet growing demand.

On the National level, average prices are down a penny compared to this time last week with today’s average price of $2.21. Compared to last year, however, they remain .$45 cents lower than this time last year. Refineries nationwide are ramping up production, which should help increase supplies in various regional markets.

This is good news for the average driver because if supply can keep pace with demand, price averages should remain relatively low and drivers should continue to benefit from year-over-year savings at the pump.

AAA’s weekly survey of prices in the Nutmeg State’s four regional areas as follows:

  • Greater Bridgeport/Stamford $2.43
  • New Haven/Meriden $2.34
  • Greater Hartford $2.33
  • New London/Norwich $2.35
  • Statewide average $2.35

California and Hawaii at $2.80 and $2.64 continue to lead the pack of states with the highest average prices. Oklahoma at $1.95 and Kansas and Missouri, both at $1.98, are the states with the lowest prices CT dropped to 12th place in terms of the highest prices in the nation.

AAA Northeast is a not-for-profit auto club with 61 offices in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey and New York providing more than 5.2 million local AAA members with travel, insurance, finance, and auto-related services.
