Our Woven Community: Refugee Life and Women’s Empowerment

Come meet and be inspired by the resilient and creative women of Our Woven Community. Our Woven Community is a program of Burroughs Community Center in Bridgeport providing an opportunity for creative community integration and economic growth.

Meet refugee Alliance Asaba who will share her life story and her experience of resettlement in the United States. The International Institute of Connecticut, IICONN, will also talk about their work providing an array of services for immigrants and refugees. Then shop the unique, hand-made items created by Our Woven Community, including scarves and handbags.

Every item is made from donated fabrics and materials from our community and from theirs. Each piece symbolizes the weaving together of lives, cultures and communities. Join us on Wednesday, May 5, at 7 p.m., in the Rotary Room at the Fairfield Public Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road and support these newest members of our community. Registration is requested.

All sales of Our Woven Community items benefit refugee women and the Our Woven Community program.
