Deadline to apply for United in Hope scholarship is May 25

Fairfield and Westport students who have lost a parent to cancer have until May 25 to apply for the United in Hope Scholarship, which is aimed to help students with college costs.

The scholarship is funded by the Chad A. Jacobs Memorial Foundation (CAJF) and the John Patrick Flanagan Foundation (JPFF). The scholarship is funded by the JPFF and the CAJF. Since the inception of the scholarship in 2013, the organizations have granted scholarships to five recipients, totally $17,500.

Graduating high school seniors who attend school in Fairfield or Westport are eligible to apply. Criteria for the scholarship includes:

  • Loss of Parent to Cancer
  • Financial Need
  • Attends High School in Fairfield or Westport, Connecticut
  • Character of Applicant
  • Academic Goals and Performance

CAJF and JPFF were established in memory of John Flanagan and Chad Jacobs shortly after John and Chad lost their lives to cancer in 2008 and 2010, respectively. John was survived by his wife, and three children, and Chad was survived by his wife and two children.

Students can download a scholarship application from either cajfoundation.org or jpff.org.
