Gabby Natoli pitched six innings of two-hit ball when the Fairfield Warde softball team posted a 1-0 non-conference victory over Bunnell High in Stratford on Thursday.

“Our defense did a great job for us,” Warde head coach Gary Quiricone said after the Mustangs improved to 4-1. “We would have liked to have scored more runs, but she (Lauren Anderson) kept us off balance.”

Kathleen Goodchild drove in the game’s only run with a single in the top of the second inning.

Bunnell (0-4) had its best chance to score in the bottom of the frame.

Katelyn Root had a single and the Bulldogs had two runners in scoring position, before Natoli struck out the next two batters and got a fly ball out to end the threat.

Kylie Zack had Bunnell’s second hit, a liner to right-center field with two out in the fifth.

Warde will visit Trumbull High Friday at 10:30 a.m.
