A mandatory evacuation of the Fairfield Beach area will begin at noon Sunday, Oct. 28.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The evacuation area was expanded as of 2 p.m. Sunday fairfield-sun.com/4511/fairfield-expands-evacuation-area.

“A ‘MANDATORY’ Evacuation is a strong and emphatic warning that should you choose to stay, we cannot assure your safety and may not be able to respond with emergency services when request,” Fairfield Police posted on their Facebook page, facebook.com/FPDCT.

Voluntary evacuations have been requested for Sunday morning, according to First Selectman Michael Tetreau.

“We need to complete evacuations before nightfall when wind and rain begin to strengthen. Be prepared to stay away from the area for several days,” Tetreau wrote in a Code RED alert Saturday afternoon.

The emergency shelter at Ludlowe High School will open at noon on Sunday for people and pets.
