LETTER: Starving Hyenas

Letter-to-the-EditorNEWTo the Editor:
When Fairfield Republicans vote in our presidential primary this month, hopefully most will have the good sense to reject Donald Trump’s reviling candidacy, and disassociate themselves from the senseless voters in the rest of our country who’ve previously voted for him. Even Trump himself has characterized and mocked his supporters as having monumentally bad judgment. That’s why he said, “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose any voters.”
Trump supporters are people easily and mindlessly swayed by the hateful, shallow, incendiary, fear-filled red meat rhetoric he regularly throws at them. They devour it at rallies like a pack of frenzied hyenas over fresh kill. Polling shows that the defining common trait shared by Trump supporters, fueling his rise, is a preference for authoritarianism. Surely that won’t sell in Fairfield, Connecticut. We are, after all, “The Constitution State!”
Trump is the chosen candidate for those who are under-informed, misinformed, unaware, and who are indifferent to what is truth, what is fiction, what is indecent, what is absurd, what is nonsense, what is preposterous, and what is vulgar. According to Politico Magazine, Trump is effective in communicating with his supporters because he does so at a third-grade level
Why would Fairfield Republicans want to be part of that inane cohort?
Lincoln said, “You can fool some of the people all of the time.” Let’s hope Fairfield Republicans are people who can’t be fooled by Trump’s con-man act.
