Diversity discussion series kicks off at Unitarian Universalist Church

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Bridgeport, 275 Huntington Road in Stratford in partnership with SURJ Fairfield County (Showing Up for Racial Justice), is presenting a three-part community education series this spring entitled “Building Bridges in a Multi-Cultural Society.” The series features prominent leaders and advocates for confronting racism, xenophobia, and discrimination as manifested in our nation and world today.

Bishop John Selders Jr., founding pastor of Amistad United Church of Christ in Hartford and a co-founder and moving force behind Moral Monday CT, will be the featured speaker for the first presentation in the series on Saturday, April 16. His topic will be “Confronting Racism and White Supremacy” and he will be joined by Pastor Anthony L. Bennett, Senior Pastor at Mount Aery Baptist Church in Bridgeport and co-chair of CONECT.

“Islam 101: What Our Muslim Brothers and Sisters Believe and Practice ” will be the topic of the May 14 presentation with speakers Dr. Ahmed Ebrahim and Amina Seyal. On June 18 the final presentation will address “Has Our Lady in the Harbor Closed  The Golden Door?” with speakers to be announced.

All three presentations will take place at 6 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 275 Huntington Road, Stratford, and are open to the community.

Donations are welcome and refreshments will be served.
