Town of Fairfield prepares for potential storm

This is an updated message from First Selectman Michael Tetreau and the Town of Fairfield Emergency Management Team:

In preparation of the potential storm, Town officials have met today, Friday, October 26, 2012, to review emergency plans. We continue to monitor the storm’s path and will adjust our plans accordingly as the storm approaches.

The Town of Fairfield will be sending updates using a variety of sources. The Town will be utilizing CodeRED, our emergency notification system. If you have not yet signed up, you can do so at www.fairfieldct.org. Click on the CodeRED link on the top left side on the Town’s homepage.

In addition, the Town of Fairfield’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/fairfieldct) and website (www.fairfieldct.org) will be updated periodically. The effects of this storm could be similar or worse than that of Tropical Storm Irene, as it may contain higher winds and more rain for a longer period of time. The potential for flooding is also a possibility. Residents are asked to remove unsecured items from their yards and prepare for power outages. The emergency shelter at Fairfield Ludlowe High School, 785 Unquowa Road, will be open if needed.

Please call the Town of Fairfield information line at 203-254-4899 for updates. Also follow news media for storm updates and go to www.ready.gov/hurricanes for general preparation information.

The Town will be updating this message by 6 pm on Sunday, October 28, 2012, or sooner, if conditions change.
