Pepe’s reaches decade milestone, helps fight against breast cancer

Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, widely-known as “Pepe’s,” world-famous for New Haven-style pizza since 1925, celebrates the 10th anniversary of their Fairfield, Connecticut location. To commemorate this decade milestone Pepe’s has teamed up with Susan G. Komen® Southern New England to be a leading supporter in the local fight against breast cancer. Not only will Pepe’s be a sponsor for their Fairfield County Race for the Cure® event on Saturday, May 7 at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, but they are also kicking off a month-long initiative throughout March to help raise critical funds and awareness on behalf of this intrepid organization.

Customers can show their support for Komen Southern New England by making their donations at Pepe’s of Fairfield. For donations of $100 or more, Pepe’s will be giving away a free large pizza. On April 5 folks can visit Pepe’s and register their teams for the Komen Southern New England Race for the Cure. Those who register will receive a Pepe’s Discount Card, obtain educational materials, and meet the leadership team behind Komen Southern New England, whose mission is to save lives and end breast cancer forever.

Frank Pepe Pizzeria began serving their popular thin-crust pizzas in Fairfield on March 14th, 2006. A Pepe’s Pizza, a Connecticut institution for 90 years, continues to use Frank Pepe’s original recipe and their signature coal fired oven just like the New Haven original.

Pepe’s specialty pizzas include the original White Clam Pizza, a combination created by Frank Pepe himself (fresh clams with grated cheese, olive oil, fresh garlic and oregano), Spinach Mushroom and Gorgonzola (mozzarella and grated cheese), and of course, Frank Pepe’s Original Tomato Pie (crushed tomatoes, imported olive oil, and grated cheese), a classic dating back to 1925. In addition, guests can enjoy a traditional Pepe’s Salad (seasonal greens, grape tomatoes, cucumber, shredded red cabbage, Kalamata olives, Pecorino Romano cheese and balsamic vinaigrette), along with a selection of red and white wines, an assortment of imported and domestic craft beer, as well as non-alcoholic beverages including the “other” New Haven classic, Foxon Park Soda. These offerings remain at the core of all of the Pepe’s locations throughout CT, Yonkers, NY and now even Boston.

The 3290 square foot, 98 seat restaurant is visually dominated by the view of its 14 x 14 foot brick oven and the even larger “paddle area” where expert pizzaiolos create made-to-order masterpieces on a wooden bakers table and use 16 foot-long paddles to place them in the giant 104,000 pound oven. Bringing the Pepe’s experience full circle is an array of signature design elements from the New Haven location that have been incorporated into the main dining area: an antique-style tin ceiling painted in a historic green hue, exposed ductwork, painted wooden booth backing with vintage coat rack hooks, historic photos of Pepe’s 90 years in business, vintage wallpaper featuring subtle neutral brown and light gray tones, and their neon “The Original Tomato Pies” sign that continues to shine like a beacon.
