The Fairfield Warde-Ludlowe boys ice hockey team defeated Watertown-Pomperaug, 6-2 in its Division II tournament opener at the Wonderland of Ice on Tuesday.

Jake Fuss scored three goals to lead second-seeded the Mustangs, now 16-5-1, over their 15th-seeded rivals (7-13-1).

Next up for Fairfield is No. 7 Cheshire High (11-11-1), who it will meet Friday in the quarterfinals at a site and time to be determined.

Gareth Gacetta scored two goals for the locals, who led 2-0 after one period and 4-1 after two.

Mike Grace had 22 saves for Fairfield.

Jack McCormick had a goal in the third period.

Owen Emmendorfer and Calvin Sharp each had two assists.

Will Von Brauchitsch, Kevin Boldrigini, Charles Pippert and Anthony Beccaria had assists.

Jake Harwell and Nick Labella scored for W-P.

Alex Nocera made 20 stops.
