Fairfield apartment and retail development launches groundbreaking ceremony

Project hopes to lessen sting of GE's departure

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Tuesday, March 1 at Commerce Drive and Black Rock Turnpike (former Edge Fitness property) to kick-off construction of the long-awaited mixed-use modern residential and retail development. The building will house 101 architecturally designed upscale residential apartment units and 14,900 square feet of retail space.

Overview: Mixed-use, transit-oriented, architecturally designed apartment and retail development within walking distance to the new Fairfield Metro Station, several restaurants, corporations, and services.

The Vision: A vibrant mixed-use community anchoring the previously industrial Black Rock area to provide greater balance between people, commerce, access to transportation and modern conveniences.

Projected Completion Date: Spring/Summer 2017

Residential: 101 residential apartment units comprised of four studios, 73 one-bedrooms, and 24 two-bedroom units.

Amenities: Resident lounge, game room, landscaped outdoor terrace with gardens, bocce court, swimming pool, fitness center, bike storage, and on-site covered parking.

Prospective Residents: Young professionals, commuters, empty-nesters with family ties to the community, who want urban conveniences, easy access to NYC, and/or points north and south.

Retail: 14,900 square feet of ground-floor space featuring pedestrian access both along Commerce Drive and a covered rear arcade.

Community Benefits: This development is projected to provide the town of Fairfield with 30-50 permanent jobs, 125-150 construction jobs, and applicable tax revenue from both the residences and retail space.

Total square footage: Total square footage of the building, comprised of both the apartments and the retail, is 140,000 square feet.
