Pequot Library hosts Music in March

Pequot Library announces its March 2016 line up of musical events. Registration is now open for the music seminars starting Thursday night, March 3, 7-9 p.m.

The classes, taught by Fairfield University Professor, Brian Q. Torff, run from March 3-31. They are part of Pequot’s American Master Artists Series. The seminars, Masters of American Music: Roots and Evolution of the Blues, Jazz, Rock, and American Society are a community-based series of enriching, engaging illustrated slide talks surveying the history, controversies, and appreciation of American music.

With its acoustically renowned Concert Hall, Pequot Library is one of New England’s most sought-after locations to listen to music. On Saturday, March 12, Music for Youth and Pequot Library present, a Free Young Persons’ Concert with Svet Stoyanov, percussionist, from 2-3. Stoyanov has been praised by The New York Times for his “understated but unmistakable virtuosity,” and is the 2003 Winner of the Concert Artists Guild International Competition. Svet Stoyanov is the Director and Associate Professor of Percussion Studies for the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami.

This concert is free for adults attending with children. Adults attending without children are asked to make a goodwill donation that helps sustain future programs. The program will be followed by a master class for advanced percussion students. The registration fee for the class is $30. Space is limited. On Sunday, March 20, from 2-4, there will be a Youth Showcase Series. Fairfield Warde and Ludlowe High School students from the TRI-M Music Honor society at Warde and Ludlowe High Schools join on stage for an afternoon of music. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to hear these talented students from our community. Free and open to the public. Any donations will support the music programs at Pequot Library and the Bridgeport High Horizons String Program.
