CT Audubon presents: Planting and Cooking with Herbs

Program by Nationally Renowned Expert Sal Gilbertie

Nationally renowned herb expert Sal Gilbertie will help launch us into spring with a presentation on herbs — from garden to kitchen on Saturday, March 12, from 10:30-11:30 am., at Connecticut Audubon Society Center at Fairfield, 2325 Burr Street.

One of the country’s leading growers and suppliers of herbs, Gilbertie has been at the forefront of the herb movement for more than 40 years.

Gilbertie’s program will offer step-by-step, detailed advice on how to plant, grow, use and preserve herbs — whether you are planning a large garden, a deck container, or just a window box. “Herbs are so easy to grow and give so much in return — beauty, flavor, fragrance — fascinating and endless uses,” said Gilbertie.

Sal Gilbertie is the third generation owner of Gilbertie’s Herb Gardens in Westport and Easton, Conn. — a name that is synonymous with the highest-quality herbs and vegetables. They are a supplier of more than 400 varieties of herbs to many nurseries, greenhouses and top restaurants throughout the northeastern U.S.

Author of eight books and a frequent lecturer, Gilbertie has appeared on numerous radio and television programs including Martha Stewart Living. In 2006, People Places Plants Magazine named him to their list of 50 Most Influential Horticulturists in the Northeast. In 2011, the Northeast Organic Farming Association named him Connecticut Organic Farmer of the Year.” He resides in Easton, Connecticut with his wife Marie and dog Ginger.

This program is free, but suggested donations of $5 will be welcomed. Books by Sal Gilbertie and herbs will be available for purchase. For more information or to reserve your spot, call 203-259-6305, ext. 109, or go to ctaudubon.org/center-at-fairfield.
