State Rep. Laura Devlin (Fairfield & Trumbull) attended the first Transportation meeting of the new legislative session and heard agency updates from both the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

DMV’s new Acting Commissioner Dennis C. Murphy discussed Governor Malloy’s legislation which would make it easier for the DMV to provide customer services, including license renewals and motor vehicle registration, through independent contractors.

Devlin listened as DOT Commissioner James Redeker gave the committee an update on Governor Malloy’s Transportation projects, including the existing transportation infrastructure, especially locally along our main roads, highways and bridges, some of which need significant improvements.

Redeker was also asked by legislators about concerns regarding the current state of the Metro-North railroad, including modernizing track maintenance and replacing older trains and a timeline for possibly adding Wi-Fi on the train line for Fairfield County business customers.

Rep. Laura Devlin has put together a transportation survey on the major transportation issues being talked about in her district which includes, the re-institution of tolls in Connecticut, the proposal to widen I-95, the proposal to increase the current state gasoline tax, plans permitting ‘AAA’ to perform more services to better serve the public.
