Attack, shooting under investigation

Christopher Andrews, 51, shot by Fairfield police after he allegedly assaulted wife, children

The man shot and killed by Fairfield police during a “violent domestic assault” Tuesday, Feb.16, was known for his involvement in youth sports.

The incident Tuesday left the man’s wife and three children — ages 12, 13 and 15 — hospitalized, having suffered blunt force trauma and stab wounds.

Christopher Andrews, a 51-year-old attorney who worked in Manhattan, died after being shot outside his Mountain Laurel Road after police responded to a 911 call around 6 a.m.

Those who Andrews him through athletics expressed shock at the incident.

Police said Andrews confronted them outside the house, holding a knife, and would not comply with officers. He reportedly approached them, one officer fired, striking Andrews. He was treated at the scene then taken to Bridgeport Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the 15-year-old wrestled a bat from his father during the incident.

Fairfield Police have not identified the officer who fired the shot. The officer was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center for evaluation.

Kathleen Andrews, 50, was taken to Bridgeport Hospital.

The 12-year-old was airlifted to Yale-New Haven Hospital, according to reports. The 13- and 15-year-old have been released.

With Fairfield Police securing the scene, investigators from the Connecticut State Police Major Crimes Unit and the Stamford-based State’s Attorney’s Office were at the house, located at the corner of Mountain Laurel Road and Brookside Drive, into Tuesday evening.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy on Andrews.

Fairfield police officials said they will conduct their own internal probe of the officer’s role in the shooting, according to State Police.
