Registration open for Nature’s Classroom summer camp

Summer camp is both fun and educational at The Connecticut Audubon Society’s Center at Fairfield. It’s a chance to explore the outdoors, make new friends, develop independence and build an appreciation for science, animals and nature.

From June through August, Connecticut Audubon Society’s camp programs are offered in a unique learning environment. Campers ages 4 through 14 attend week-long programs, in full- or half-day sessions, that use the Larsen Wildlife Sanctuary and the Center’s interactive classrooms to inspire and build a life-long connection to the natural world. Experienced staff is skilled at engaging campers and presenting the science and nature-based topics in a fun, informative way.

Campers explore woods, ponds and streams to investigate nature’s riddles, learn about habitats, develop outdoor skills and meet live animals. Preschool options include: “Puddle Jumpers,” “Hop, Slither and Slink,” and “Audubon Meets Dr. Seuss.” Campers who completed kindergarten through grade five have choices like “Wacky Wetlands,” “Buggin’ Out,” and “Wilderness Skills.”

Exceptional enrichment programing that balances fun and challenging activities is available to students who have completed grades 6-8. These Junior Science Lab sessions offer advanced inquiry and hands-on experimentation. “Bits and Bones: Forensic Science” teaches campers about crime scene investigation. “Wings of Wonder” uses data gathering and research techniques in the study of bird science, anatomy and behavior. For inquisitive future engineers, “Fun-Omenal Physics” explores the science and design of motion, and campers create a simple machine.

All camp programs are led by teacher-naturalist and college-educated staff with experience in education and/or science. Students, ages 14-18, can apply for half-day or full-day Junior Counselor volunteer positions. First aid, CPR and Epi-Pen trained staff are on site, and our high staff-to-camper ratio ensures all campers have a safe, educational and enjoyable camp experience.

Registration is open. Visit www.ctaudubon.org/center-at-fairfield to download a camp brochure or to register online. For more information call 203-259-6305, ext. 109.
