Upcoming programs and announcements for the week of Feb. 16

The Bigelow Center is closed on Monday, Feb. 15 in observance of Presidents’ Day.

AARP Tax-Aide continues. Appointments are available at the Bigelow Center on Wednesdays, Feb. 17, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and on Mondays and Wednesdays, starting Feb. 22 through April 13. Please call 203-256-3166 to make your appointment.

Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 11 a.m. — In recognition of American Heart Month, American Medical Response (AMR) will provide free blood pressure checks at the Center, no appointment necessary. Seniors who are unable to make it to the center may request home visits for their screenings. At 11:15, Aimee from AMR will review the basics of Heart Health.

Thursday, Feb. 18 — Veterans’ Corner with Ramon Agosto, of the CT Department of Veterans’ Affairs – time change – 1:30 p.m. (instead of 12:30 p.m.). Call for an appointment.

Thursday, Feb. 18, at 1  —Poets’ Roundtable – Facilitated by Poet Emerson Gilmore. All are welcome.

New exercise class: Nancy Goncalves is back on Tuesday mornings, beginning Feb. 16 at 9 a.m. for a new exercise class, Morning Exercise. This class combines stretching, balance, aerobic and strength exercises to help improve overall flexibility and physical endurance, in a fun and non-competitive environment. No fee. Our thanks to Sandy for jumping in and subbing this fall and winter.

Senior Basketball – the Bigelow Center is offering a pick-up game on Tuesdays from 11:30- 1:00 to all senior adults who would like to shoot hoops. Please call 203-256-3166 for more information. Open to all interested basketball players.

Thursday, February 18 -Poets’ Roundtable – Facilitated by Poet Emerson Gilmore. All are welcome.

NEW – Low-Vision Support Group – Tuesday, March 1 at 10:30 -Social Services is beginning a monthly Low-Vision Support Group. All are welcome. Please register by calling 203-256-3166 or stop by the front desk for more information.

Bigelow Center Inclement Weather Policy – If Fairfield Public Schools are closed due to bad weather, the Bigelow Center will be closed. If schools are delayed, morning activities, classes and transportation services that begin before 11 a.m. are cancelled. Classes, activities and transportation will begin at 11 a.m. or as determined by staff. Bigelow Center Closings and Delays are publicized on T.V. channels 12, 8, 6 and 3; on WICC and WEBE 108 on the radio; and on the CT Post and Fairfield Citizen websites.
