Operation Hope thanks community for Fairfield’s 5% Day

Proceeds from Whole Foods Market Fairfield’s 5% Day on Jan. 6 will help Operation Hope of Fairfield continue to feed more hungry people through its two emergency food programs, the Community Kitchen and Food Pantry. In 2015, Operation Hope experienced a 32% increase in pantry usage from the previous year, providing 172,000 meals to more than 1,600 hungry neighbors.

Operation Hope received $4,413 from the proceeds of its 5% Day. On four designated days over the course of the year, Whole Foods Market Fairfield holds community giving days, also known as “5% Days.” On these days, five percent of the store’s net sales are donated to a local nonprofit whose mission is aligned with Whole Foods Market’s commitment to health and community-related causes.

Operation Hope addresses basic needs for food and shelter, as well as offers long-term solutions to hunger and homelessness, including affordable housing, life skills training and personalized clinical support.

“5% Days at Whole Foods Market Fairfield happen four times a year, and this year, we were fortunate to be a recipient of this community giving day,” said Carla Miklos, Executive Director, Operation Hope. “We thank our many friends who generously ‘shopped and gave back’ that day, Whole Foods Market Fairfield’s staff for its support and our volunteers. It’s hard to believe that there are still too many people in our community who don’t have enough to eat. The funds we received will support our almost entirely volunteer-run Community Kitchen and Food Pantry, directly impacting the lives of those we serve and helping ensure they will be able to feed themselves and their families.”
