McCarthy-Vahey hosts Fairfield business leaders

State Representative Cristin McCarthy Vahey (D-Fairfield) hosted Fairfield’s Ken Kleban, of Kleban Properties, and Beverly Balaz, president of the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, on the opening day of the 2016 legislative session at the State Capitol in Hartford. The group met with Speaker of the House Brendan Sharkey, legislative committee chairs, and Governor Dannel Malloy.

“Ken and Beverly have each worked hard to create a vibrant economy in our town, with a proven record of success. I am grateful to both of them for taking time to join me in Hartford to participate in the Opening Day of the Session,” Rep. McCarthy Vahey said.

Kleban Properties, a Fairfield-based real estate investment/development company is currently working to acquire General Electric’s corporate headquarters property on Easton Turnpike.

“Kleban Properties has its roots here in Fairfield, and is committed to the responsible development of this site in a way that all of Connecticut can be proud of,” said Ken Kleban.

“It was a pleasure to be invited by State Representative Cristin McCarthy Vahey, as it gave me the opportunity to attend and interact with other guests and legislators.  Fairfield continues to be a destination town for restaurants and businesses.  With a 95% commercial business occupancy rate, the town continues to provide the right location and business environment for companies to open their doors, while also offering a community rich with a stellar public school system, two universities, plus fabulous arts & culture venues for everyone to enjoy while living here,” said President Beverly Balaz.

“The Chamber, with a membership base of 330 companies, continues to support the town and the Fairfield business community through a variety of programs and events, all designed to help sustain and grow businesses. The Chamber, in partnership with the town, helps promote a climate for business that enhances the economic vitality and quality of life in the town of Fairfield.  We believe, promote and reinforce the theme of: ‘Shop, Dine & Support Local Businesses’, and on a day-to-day basis, we follow our mission statement:  Building Relationships, Building Business,” President Balaz added.

“This was an important opportunity for Fairfield business leaders to communicate directly with Speaker Sharkey and Governor Malloy about what we can do to support large and small businesses in the state,” Rep. McCarthy Vahey said. “I am committed to working in Hartford to promote policies that grow jobs and businesses, to show without reservation that Fairfield is open for business.”

“A candid and robust dialogue with business leaders and legislative leaders across the state is vital to our economic health,” Rep. McCarthy Vahey added. “As a legislator and member of the Commission on Economic Competitiveness, I will keep that conversation going.”
