Notre Dame’s Hakim Fleming is 23-0 in state competition.

Hakim Fleming of Notre Dame Fairfield recently competed in the Eastern States Classic, one of the most prestigious wrestling tournaments in the country attended by nationally ranked wrestlers from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Competing in the heavyweight division, Fleming won his first match by decision over Zane Tucker of Elmira (N.Y.)  to advance to the round of 32, where he pinned Alexsei Gonzalez of Newburgh (N.Y.) to advance to the quarterfinals.

In the quarterfinals, he defeated Jake Beckwith of General Brown by a 9-2 decision to advance to the semifinals against Zach Gifford of Deposit-Hancock in New Jersey

Fleming was losing 1-0 in the third period before he was pinned.

He then wrestled back twice to take sixth place in the tournament.

He is currently 23-0 in state competition.
