Top-ranked Danbury High will visit third-ranked Fairfield Warde on Wednesday, Jan 27, in an FCIAC wrestling match.

The meeting between the unbeaten squads begins at 5 p.m. Live coverage starts at 4:55 on live.HAN.Network, Fairfield-Sun.com, FCIAC.net and all the HAN Network affiliates. HAN’s Rob Adams will lead the call.

Coach Ricky Shook’s Danbury Hatters are defending FCIAC champions (28 times in 29 years). They finished second in Class LL and the State Open in 2015. They return six state place-winners.

Coach Jason Shaughnessy’s Warde Mustangs were second in both Class L and the FCIAC a year ago. They were fifth at the State Open. Warde has won three state titles, 2006, 2009 and 2010, the season it took home the FCIAC title. They return five state place-winners.

Warde boasts returning state champions in Tim Kane at 126 and Charlie Kane at 138. Both took home FCIAC honors as well.

Alex Steele (113) and Jon Ocana (220) were fourth at states in 2015. Ocano was third in the FCIAC and Steele fourth.

Jack Price at 126 pounds was fifth at states and fourth at FCIACs.

Alex Lobsenz was FCIAC champ at 195 pounds.

Leading Danbury will be Jakob Camacho, who was second in the state and took third in New England at 106 pounds. An FCIAC champion, he is 20-2 this season at 113.

Joey Hulse wrestles at 126, where the senior co-captain is 20-2. He was second at states at 120 as a junior.

Senior Jeremy Fields wrestles at 138. He won FCIACs and states at 126 and placed fourth in New England.

Senior Matt Adams is 10-1 at 182. He was third in the FCIAC and fifth at 170 at states.

Junior heavyweight Michael Gaboardi was third in the FCIAC and fourth in the division in states as a sophomore. He is 18-5 on the season.

Junior Andrew Marquis was fourth in FCIACs at 160 a year ago. He is 21-3 at 195.

Senior co-captain Justin Peterson is 14-2 at 145. He was second in the FCIAC and fourth at 132 at states in 2015.

Freshman Ben LeBlanc is 15-3 at 106. Freshman Kyle Fields is 17-2 at 120. Junior Peterson Souza is 16-3 at 132. Senior Jarek Laplante is 16-3 at 152. Sophomore Gino Baratta is 17-5 at 160. Junior Jake Constantine is 12-7 at 170. Sophomore Solomon James is 14-6 at 220.

Danbury is coming off a 34-23 win over Mt. Anthony Union from Bennington, Vermont’s 27-time state champion. It was first win by the Hatters over the visiting Patriots since 2012, and just the fifth by Danbury over the 27-time Vermont champions since the series began in 2001.

DHS notched 262 consecutive wins against Connecticut opponents before losing to New Milford on on Dec. 22, 2009 by the score of 33-23. New Milford is the last state team to defeat DHS, winning 35-22 last Feb. 6.
