Fairfield Fire responds to serious car accident

On Sunday, Dec. 28, at about 6:14 p.m., the Fairfield Emergency Communications Center received a call reporting a motor vehicle accident with injuries in the area of 1296 Kings Highway Cutoff.

Fairfield Fire Department Engine 1, Ladder 1, Engine 2, Ladder 2, and Car 3 responded. Company 1 and Car 3 arrived on scene within minutes and reported a very serious multi-vehicle accident, with the single occupant of one vehicle heavily entrapped in the vehicle, and the occupants of the second vehicle requiring immediate medical care.

Assistant Chief Schuyler Sherwood assumed command of the incident. Extrication was initiated utilizing multiple hydraulic rescue tools. The scene required 14 emergency response personnel to extricate the operator. American Medical Response arrived shortly after the fire department with one ambulance and requested two more ambulances.

A total of four victims were removed from the vehicles at turned over to AMR for transport to area hospitals. Southport Fire Department was requested to the scene to assist with lighting for the police investigation. Fairfield Police remained on the scene completing their investigation after the Fire Department went in service.
