Wrestling: Warde crowns five champions at Invitational

Ward Melville (N.Y.) won the team title.

Coach Jason Shaughnessy’s Mustangs, ranked No. 4 in the state, placed ahead of No. 1 ranked Newtown, No. 5 Ledyard and No. 6 Xavier-Middletown.

Fairfield Warde closed out the day winning 10 of 11 bouts in the championship round, crowning five individuals champions: 106 Noah Zuckerman, 126 Alex Steele, 132 Tim Kane, 138 Jack Price and 145 Charlie Kane.

Other Warde finishers included: 113 Luke Bender fifth, 120 Brandon Moutinho fifth, 160 Tallis Santos fifth, 182 Matt Cuoco fifth, 220 Jon Ocana fourth and heavyweight Alex Lobsenz third.
