Dining with Downton! at the Pequot Library starts Jan. 8

What better way to spend wintery Friday evenings then Dining with Downton! Starting Friday, Jan. 8, promptly at 7 p.m., in the Reading Room of Pequot Library, with the fire glowing in the fireplace the public can watch Downton Abbey Season 6, before it airs on PBS.

New for this final season viewers can select a prix fixe gourmet Downton-inspired dinner service for $25/each (menu for each week listed below) from Chef Genee Habansky, owner of Herbaceous Catering. Order your Dining with Downton! prix fixe gourmet dinner directly from Pequot’s website, www.pequotlibrary.org. This will make a fabulous gift for yourself and/or all the Downton Abbey lovers on your holiday gift list!

Downton Abbey Season 6 promises “Secrets and rifts threaten the unity of the family, while those below stairs continue to navigate social changes which put their futures in jeopardy . . .” Friday evening dates (with the fireplace ambiance) include: Jan. 8, Episodes 1 + 2; Jan. 15, Episodes 3 + 4; Jan. 22, Episodes 5 + 6, and Jan. 29, Episodes 7 + 8 + 9.

Prix fixe gourmet Downton-inspired dinner Week 1: Option 1 – Homemade sausage, red potato mashed, pickled tomatoes, poached eggs & hollandaise with Apples Charlotte- individual baked apples in pastry with honey cinnamon sabayon. Option 2 – Braised vegetable stuffed pastries, pea purée & hollandaise with Apples Charlotte- individual baked apples in pastry with honey cinnamon sabayon. Week 2: Option 1 – Seared Rosemary chicken served with creamed carrot polenta & crispy Brussels with Salty caramel apple pudding with whip. Option 2 – Seared scallops, watercress soup & sunchoke mashed with Salty caramel apple pudding with whip. Week 3: Option 1 – Individual beef Wellingtons, pea purée with Cardamom rice pudding with rose water & vanilla ice cream. Option 2 – Seared salmon, caper piccata sauce, bacon braised kale, fingerlings with Cardamom rice pudding with rose water & vanilla ice cream. Week 4: Option 1 – Beef bourguignon, homemade fettuccini, parsley, garlic and lemon gremolata with Queens pudding (custard, fig jam & meringue). Option 2 – Mustard glazed salmon, balsamic reduction, braised French lentils with Queens pudding (custard, fig jam & meringue).

Chef Genee Habansky has been cooking for her loved ones for a long time. She started her career at The Natural Gourmet Institute studying healthful and healing cuisine. Once graduated, she began to intern under Jon Vaast at The Dressing Room in Westport, CT. This developed into a deep love for seasonal and local cuisine. Other restaurants she’s worked in include Paganos Seafood, Heirloom, Walrus + Carpenter, and Centro. Through this time she developed skills in both front and back of the house. Her culinary inspirations are Alice Waters,

Dan Barber, Thomas Keller and local chef Karen Gosselin. Bring your friends and family for these special Friday, fireside, film, and food events at Pequot Library.
