Tony Hwang, action for the community

To the Editor:

I have lived in Fairfield for more than 30 years and never written a letter to the editor, or heavens forbid one for a politician supporting his re-election. Therefore, this is a very meaningful moment for me. I am writing this letter in support of Tony Hwang for state representative.

Tony engenders all the wonderful qualities of doing all the little things that make a difference in our community, those unselfish acts of caring, listening and helping that sadly so many of our politicians, local, state and federal, have forgotten.

I will cite some recent examples of Tony’s commitment to community that I have personally witnessed.

During hurricane Irene, Tony drove and walked all over town to ensure the elderly and the most vulnerable in our community were updated, protected and safe from danger. As I personally followed the crews removing trees, I relayed the information to Tony and asked him to get UI crews in the area to restore power and he was always in constant contact with me to ensure our community’s power was restored in a timely manner. Tony was a good teammate that made a positive difference for our neighborhoods.

Since that eventful storm, I have watched Tony attend and support many different community organization events: Chip’s Restaurant fundraiser for Operation Hope for the Homeless; the bipartisan Janotta Family Connecticut Food Bank Drive at Vazzy’s; FSW Social/Community Center fundraiser at Fairfield University Quick Center; being honored as Community Spirit Volunteer champion for his contributions in our community by The Bank of Fairfield. At every event, Tony interacts, supports and celebrates the contributions of the host organization, He is constantly promoting the good work of the organization and their tireless volunteers. Tony makes everyone feel important, engaged and constantly thanks them for making a difference in our community.

It has been commented that Tony seems to be everywhere in town and he is because the people that he represents want and need him to recognize their services and efforts.

In today’s world, Tony Hwang, as our state representative, is the personification of what all politicians should be: a tireless advocate for his community, selfless caring for his constituents and having the integrity of being honest about making tough legislative decisions. Tony is a breath of fresh air in our cynical and stagnant political environment and he deserves our vote to continue his mission of making a difference in our community.
