Tony Hwang, passionate, committed to getting the job done

To the Editor:

I am writing this letter in support of re-electing Tony Hwang as our state representative.

Some friends of ours that had been terribly affected by a form of blood cell cancer had been trying pass a piece of legislation to help people with cancer find bone marrow matches faster but were faced with many road blocks at the State Capitol.

When Tony started at the General Assembly in 2009, he heard of our struggles and was very committed to the fight against cancer. He agreed that the bill gave people with cancer a better chance in their fight for survival. Tony’s philosophy emphasized that helping people win the battle against cancer is not a Democratic or Republican issue, but rather a humane one.

Even though this bill was initiated by Democratic advocates, Tony reached across political lines and worked very closely with colleagues from both parties. Tony’s unique ability to bring both sides to the table and work out an acceptable piece of legislation to benefit people impacted by cancer is impressive. Those legislators commitment led to the successful passage of a landmark health care legislation in bone marrow registry insurance coverage. After three years of getting nowhere, Tony and the bipartisan committee that he helped put together got the bill through in the first year they took over. I remember his commitment and passion in representing every constituency involved with very late night calls, texts and emails from the State Capitol to keep all of us updated on its progress.

We need more politicians like Tony that look past party politics to get things done on behalf of the people he represents, He gets the job done!
